If you are involved in translation of content, check out The Translation Business Practices Report, a World Bank survey of 111 governmental and nongovernmental organizations, translation agencies and private sector companies designed to benchmark translation business practices (buying rates, language combinations, quality assurance and technology). Some of the key findings include:

  • Most organizations outsource translation even if they have in-house capacity
  • Inability to meet demand is one of the primary reasons for outsourcing translation
  • The majority of organizations surveyed outsource more than half of their translation work
  • Most organizations reported difficulty identifying qualified translators familiar with the subject matter being translated and its associated terminology
  • Trados is the most widely used translation tool
  • Most organizations will continue or would like to start using translation memory tools
  • Some organizations do not proofread all translated materials
