In the November 1, 2005 issue of Transform, Ann Rockley explores the world of content reuse and explains why the biggest payoff is reusing objects of content across the enterprise.

To quote: “Reuse is becoming an important criterion for effective content management, yet multichannel publishing–on the Web, in print documentation and in wireless content–isn’t enough. The biggest payoff lies in reusing content objects in many types of documents, for many different uses and in every publishing channel.”

“To graduate to object-oriented content reuse, you must create modular content components, such as procedures, product overviews and sales descriptions, and then reuse these components in as many ways as possible. Brochures, manuals, training materials, troubleshooting guides and positioning papers are all prime candidates for content reuse, and they may all exist in print, Web and other forms.”
