OASIS Launches New User Assistance Initiaitve

According to announcement in the May 1, 2006 OASIS News, a new email discussion list has been created to determine if there is sufficient interest in creating an OASIS Technical Committee (TC), chartered to develop “a cross-platform standard for application-integrated software user assistance documentation.”

Familiar names involved in the initiative include: Paul Prescod, XMetaL (previously Blast Radius), Yas Etessam, XMetaL (previously Blast Radius), Robert Frankland, (former CEO of Rascal Software), and Scott Prentice, Leximation. XMetaL’s Prescod will lead the discussion group.

OASIS Membership is not required for participation in this list, and all interested parties are encouraged to subscribe.

    I think it would be really helpful to enlist help authoring tool vendors such as Adobe/RoboHelp (now that it’s been resurrected) or MadCap/Flare in this initiative as they would, presumably, have a lot to offer in terms of experience (and a lot to gain from being ahead of the game to implement the emerging standard).

    PS I would have posted this on OASIS but the last time I did that my email address was exposed on the website in plain view – not good :(
