After significant pressure from government agencies, Microsoft has announced support for the OpenDocument Format. To assist its customers in utilizing the standard, the software maker has created a free, open source software product called Open XML Translator that will allow users of Microsoft Office applications to view and create documents in the OpenDocument Format. A beta version that works with Microsoft Word 2007 is available for download from SourceForge. Users of older versions of Word will also have a download available in future versions of Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack.

Please keep us up-to-date on what you learn from your sources. It’s always good to have multiple sources for information. As we all know, just because something is on the internet does not mean it is accurate.

    Thanks for your follow-up.
