The second annual Adobe FrameMaker 2006 Chautauqua will take place November 8-10, 2006 in Austin, Texas. The event promises to be the largest international gathering of FrameMaker users this year. A wide variety of presentations will be offered covering hot topics like localization, DITA, and Controlled English as well as practical sessions covering FrameMaker basics, structured content development, HTML, XML, XSLT, and Help. FrameMaker users will not want to miss this must-attend event, during which Adobe will be announcing the release of … oops, we’re not allowed to tell you about this just yet. If you think you know what Adobe is planning to announce, take a shot—leave us a comment. Creativity counts. Click “Leave a Comment” (below). For those of you responding to the t-shirt offer, sadly, they are all gone. But, please feel free to participate in the “dream” wish list. It’s informative and really funny.

Sorry that some of you are having problems with your name displaying properly on the comments page. Your email and contact information is coming through at our end, so don’t worry about this issue.

However, it is curious that the people reporting the problems all have the same IP address but different email addresses. Hmmm…

We’re sorry your request made it to us well after the last t-shirts shipped out. 24 of them—to be exact—were shipped to Framers in Australia, France, Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, England, Japan, Austria, Ireland, Israel and the United States. Thank you for participating. We really appreciate your feedback and creativity.

    Official Adobe Statement:

What are Adobe’s plans for the future of FrameMaker software?

Adobe continues to invest in FrameMaker, the market leader in technical communications and structured authoring. Version 7.2 was introduced in the fourth quarter of 2005, and a major new version is currently being developed.

What new features will be added to FrameMaker?

Adobe has not announced the feature list for the next version of FrameMaker. However, it intends to build on existing product strengths and respond to the most important new trends in technical communications, including increased globalization and localization of technical content, increased use of structured content and XML (and the increased importance of standards such as DITA), and increased integration of rich media, such as 3D content and animation.

When will the next version of FrameMaker be available?

Adobe has not published the time frame for the next release of FrameMaker software and generally does not disclose details of new releases more than 30 days before a product is expected to ship. However, our current assumption is that the next major release of FrameMaker will be in the first half of 2007.

Sounds for me like version 8.0 (“major new version”) will come in the first half 2007 with Unicode support (finally!), better integrated DITA support (check the free DITA Beta plug-in for a first taste), and Acrobat 3D support.

    Cheers,

    *Stefan. (m size)
