Adobe Warns Hackers Can Take Over Your PC Through Acrobat Back Door

December 1, 2006 Blog No Comments

According to a November 28 announcement, Adobe Systems is warning of potential vulnerabilities in its Adobe Reader 7.0.0 through 7.0.8 and Adobe Acrobat Standard and Professional 7.0.0 through 7.0.8. These vulnerabilities can “potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system”, says the software giant.  As usual, the malicious back door security issues are only of concern to Windows users. If you are running Internet Explorer and Adobe Reader 7.0.0 through 7.0.8 and/or Adobe Acrobat Standard and Professional 7.0.0 through 7.0.8 you might want to keep an eye out for a security bulletin. Users of other browsers are not affected—neither are those who use Acrobat 8, which by the way is very cool program that includes lots of useful new features (review to follow shortly).

TheContentWrangler.com suggests: Avoid the issue altogether and upgrade to Acrobat 8 today (only $149 US). Or, get a Mac. Sorry, after seeing the new Macintosh holiday television commercials, we couldn’t resist. (C++ anyone?)

Watch the videos—and laugh, they’re funny
