Apple Marketing Genius: iPhone Fastest Rising Search Term On The Net

image If advertising campaign success can be measured by the popularity of a product name being used as a search term, then the folks doing the marketing for Apple are big winners. According to Google’s 2007 Year-End Zeitgeist, iPhone is the fastest rising search term—not just in the US—but in the world. But it’s not just good news for Apple, some US politicians also have something to squawk about.

Google’s fastest rising search terms (global) for 2007:

  1. iPhone
  2. Badoo
  3. Facebook
  4. Dailymotion
  5. Webkinz
  6. YouTube
  7. Ebuddy
  8. Second Life
  9. Hi5
  10. Club Penguin

In the US only breakdown, the results are similar, yet with a few marked differences:

Google’s fastest rising search terms (US) for 2007:

  1. iPhone
  2. Webkinz
  3. TMZ
  4. Transformers
  5. YouTube
  6. Club Penguin
  7. MySpace
  8. Heroes
  9. Facebook
  10. Anna Nicole Smith

But, achieving a top spot on the 2007 Zeitgeist doesn’t always last for long. Google also ranks to the fastest falling search terms, some of which were fast risers the year prior.

  1. World Cup*
  2. Mozart
  3. Fifa
  4. Rebelde*
  5. Kazaa
  6. Xanga
  7. Webdetente
  8. Sudoku
  9. Shakira
  10. mp3

As far as politics goes, the underdog Republican in the US Presidential Campaign, Ron Paul, was the most searched-for candidate. The top ten break down:

  2. Fred Thompson
  3. Hillary Clinton
  4. Barack Obama
  5. John Edwards
  6. Mitt Romney
  7. John McCain
  8. Joe Biden
  9. Bill Richardson
  10. Rudy Giuliani

According to Google, the 2007 Year-End Zeitgeist identifies the search terms used most often in the billions of searches performed annually by Google users. The list also includes information about searches related to showbiz, video games, music services, ringtones, and recipes.

Google Tops The List

Earlier this year, Google was identified as the most visited website on the Internet. The popular search giant earned top billing by attracting 528 million unique visitors to its website during one 30 day period, knocking Microsoft down from the top spot.
