If you’ve got the time, take ‘em to small claims court. Very good chance you won’t even have to set foot in the courtroom. You can probably get a few months of free wireless service out of them as well.

You really should call your state’s Public Service Commission (or Public Utilities Commission, or whatever they call it out there) and report this whole fiasco - especially the part about receiving a bill for a service they did not, and apparently could not provide. That’s the sort of thing that many state PSC’s take a serious interest in, provided your state legislature didn’t drink the deregulation koolaid that the phone companies have been passing out for years, and strip your PSC of most of its regulatory authority. It would be really interesting to hear what the PSC thinks about this!

This should be on Consumerist.com.
A sad waste of time for you, and imagine the morale of staff dealing with such a poorly designed system.

Someone I know, when he finds himself yelling into the phone at a customer service person, refers to this as “having an AT&T;moment”. Probably not the kind of association they want for their brand, but they’ve created that “brand value” themselves.

AT&T;Wireless and AT&T;(formerly SBC) are quite different companies, divided by a shared name.
